First of all let’s face it, technology is a huge part of almost everyone’s lives. Everywhere you go, you will inadvertently find people glued to their screens, or perhaps at the very least listening to music. From smartphones, tablets, laptops and even smartwatches, there are always screens for people to use at any time, in any situation.
Hence, although you might think that unplugging yourselves from any forms of technology might be easy, it’s actually not. In fact, statistics have shown that the average American checks their phones 96 times a day! This shows that those little small screens are now a basically integral part of our lives, and unplugging ourselves might be harder than you think.
But if you think you can do it, then this contest held by SatelliteInternet.com might be for you! SatteliteInternet.com is a company that helps people in rural areas find the most dependable internet service in their area. And now they’re launching the Digital Detox Challenge, a contest to encourage people to give up technology and reconnect with nature. If you’re selected for this contest, you stand a chance to win $1000!
In a post on their website, SatteliteInternet.com said that they wanted to help give back to people to help them reconnect with nature, and that’s the purpose of this contest.
“Many Americans have already gotten the itch to get outside, causing RV sales and rentals to skyrocket in 2020,” the company stated in a post. “We know many folks who camp with RVs also need satellite internet to stay connected, but given how much time we’ve all spent online in 2020, we wanted to find a way to help someone tune out the world and get back in tune with nature.”
In this contest, the company will choose one single winner to completely unplug themselves for 48 hours in a sponsored vacation in an RV at an American national park of their choosing, and start. Although the internet is allowed in order to help you get to the location, after you get there you are not allowed to use your phone for anything at all, even taking pictures.
At the end of the vacation, the unplugged winner will log on to the internet using a mobile hotspot and describe his/her experience.
The winner of the contest will receive $400 upfront, and another 600$ once you finish the challenge. The winner will also receive reimbursements for the RV they will be using in the challenge, mobile hotspot, and food up to $1000.
And the best part is that you don’t have to disconnect yourself alone, the winner of the contest is allowed to bring one guest with them.
Last year, the company held a similar contest, and the winner of the contest was Nolan Ritter, who went on the detox challenge with his wife. They spent the 48 hours in the Joshua Tree National Park without any technological devices.
““It gave me a new perspective on how much we use and rely on technology nowadays,” said Nolan in a post on Instagram. “Also, it makes you realize when you don’t have internet service you have to be more creative and find things to do just like the good old days.”
So what are you waiting for? If you think you can last 48 hours without any exposure to any technology and the internet, then this contest is for you! The contest is open for anyone 25 years and older with a valid US driving license. Your entry needs to be submitted before 23rd September, and the winner needs to accept their offer before 30th September.
